Norcalskindivers
Northern California Skin Divers Club is commonly referred to as NOR CAL. We are one of the oldest dive clubs in California. In 1951, NOR CAL was formally chartered by a group of Mare Island employees who started diving before the wet suit was even available. Our club is a charter member of the CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COUNCIL OF DIVING CLUBS (CEN CAL). We supplied the first CEN CAL President, many officers and board members since. We currently have members active in CEN CAL'S Board and other activities. We feel this is an important part of our history and are proud of CEN CAL's many accomplishments.

NOR CAL has a number of members who have been with the club for over 25 years.  NOR CAL has about 40 active members ranging in age from 18 to over sixty, with most members in the 25-50 year age group. We are a diversified club and we have had no shortage of new and interested divers join our club. Our main interests revolve around free diving, spearing fish and taking abalone.

We actively dive the coast all year long. NOR CAL sponsor's club competitions, CEN CAL competitions and other dive events and groups that support our sport.  We also encourage scuba divers and novice free divers to join us. Our club competition events are scored to encourage all ranges of diving experience and to give all members a chance to compete on an even basis.

The NOR CAL  constitution sets forth the purpose of the club as:

To encourage the conservation of game fish, shell fish, and crustaceans.

To stimulate legislation for more and better places of entry to the beaches of California.

To help swimmers to become qualified skin divers.

To encourage observation of game laws of the state of California.

To promote skin diving as a sport.

To promote safety on the beaches as well as in the water.

To promote good sportsmanship and co-operation in our club and with other clubs.

To provide trophies and prizes for our contests.

If you want to meet people, enjoy the ocean and experience diving at its finest, we encourage you to contact one of our club officers.
